Creativity has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in New Zealand in a pretty artistic household, my mum owned an art gallery, so I spent a lot of time surrounded by beautiful work, and the idea that making things was just part of everyday life.
Drawing has always been something I’ve naturally come back to. What started as sketches for myself and small pieces for friends and family slowly turned into something more, eventually leading to commissions and collaborative work.
Outside of art, the last decade of my life has been spent working in the outdoors. I’ve done winter seasons on ski fields, worked on sailing boats in northern Queensland, taught scuba diving, and spent time swimming with humpback whales along Australia’s east coast. These environments have shaped the way I see and create the ocean, mountains, and wild landscapes show up throughout my work.
I’m now based on the west coast of Australia, where I’m slowly building Sink or Swim Studio as an independent art label. Most of my work is inspired by the places I’ve lived and worked; coastal life, movement, nature, and the slightly dreamlike feeling of being out in the elements.
